Knowledge Mobilization and Outreach

We strongly believe that scientists should be visible within and actively engage with the communities where they live and work. Further, ensuring that there is visibility of and support for diversity at all levels of science is essential to adequately support the next generation of environmental scientists.

Examples of past and on-going outreach activities:
  • Guest instructor, Winter Limnology Field Camp, Nunavut Arctic College (Iqaluit, NU)
  • Science fair project judge (Edmonton, AB)
  • Invited speaker, grade 8 science class (Ottawa, ON)
  • Website development for lakehazen.ca
  • Volunteer for Skype a Scientist (link to this awesome organization). Past engagements have included:
    • Girl scout groups
    • High school environmental science classrooms
    • Middle school groups for girls interested in STEM fields
  • Blog on conducting science in the Arctic
  • Blog post on experiences at the Arctic Frontiers conference: Remembering the human component of the Arctic ecosystem
