WE HAVE ONE OPEN POSITION FOR A M.SC. STUDENT FOR 2025 (SEE BELOW), BUT NO OTHER AVAILABILITIES. FEEL FREE TO GET IN TOUCH ABOUT 2026 OR BEYOND!
We are located at the University of Ottawa's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in Canada's beautiful national capital, just upstream of the confluence of the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal.
If you are interested in joining the lab, please send an email to Kyra explaining a) what interests you about the lab's work, b) what your research and career goals are and c) by attaching a copy of your C.V. and (unofficial) transcript. We recognize that prior access to scholarships/grants/awards and field and/or laboratory experience is not equitable. Neither is a condition for working in the L2O Lab. Although many of our projects involve field work, it is also possible to develop largely lab and or computer-based (database and/or geospatial) research projects at any level within our team to accommodate different needs and interests.
Information about the graduate programs (M.Sc., Ph.D.) can be found here:
We also happily welcome undergraduate students interested in completing an honours project in the department (EVS4009 or GEO4010). Note that prior lab or field experience is not required. Most students undertaking an honours project will however find the completion of a more advanced statistics course (e.g., BIO4158/4558 - Applied Biostatistics) to be particularly useful either prior to or concurrently with their honours research.

ADMISSION TIMELINES: Graduate admission timelines are determined centrally at the university and are typically February 1st for spring (May) or fall (September) admission, and September 1st for winter (January) admission. This means that you should contact Dr. St. Pierre almost a year in advance of your desired start date to take advantage of scholarship competitions and admission requirements.
FUNDING: We strongly encourage and support all interested students in applying for scholarships, many of which have a deadline in the fall. Note that a stipend is provided at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels regardless of success in scholarship competitions. We also welcome those interested in postdoctoral research to co-develop fellowship proposal applications. Relevant scholarship and fellowship competitions are listed below, but note that these lists are not exclusive! Note for international applicants: Owing to the current funding situation at many public Canadian post-secondary institutions, it is extremely difficult for us to take on international applicants at the M.Sc. level. At the Ph.D. level, admission scholarships can help offset the higher tuition fees for international students. M.Sc.-level scholarships [Eligibility]:
